About Bahamas Haven

Jared & Cicely @ COCO Cay in the Bahamas

I’m Jared Whyms, your travel guide to the incredible islands of The Bahamas where God lives, and welcome to Bahamas Haven, your go-to resource for all things Bahamas!

This travel blog is dedicated to providing you with helpful information on my beautiful country, including but not limited to insider tips, travel hacks, best attractions and excursions, history, and exciting activities to make the most of your stay. Apart from myself, BahamasHaven has a team of experienced writers and travel experts that are native to The Islands and have extensive knowledge of the Bahamas and are passionate about sharing their expertise with our readers.

Born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Fox Hill on the island of New Providence, I’ve always loved everything about my home—from the turquoise beaches and the spirited festivals like Junkanoo and the Fox Hill Day celebrations to the incredible people and rich history. Growing up as the youngest of four kids, I learned to love community, storytelling, and sharing the unique culture of the islands with anyone who would listen. After graduating high school in 2000, I jumped right into tourism, working as a first mate on a ferry boat for Nassau Cruises Limited, where I spent my days tendering excited tourists to Blue Lagoon Island where they either swam with dolphins, stingrays or just a beach day. Eventually, I earned my captain’s license(a major achievement at the time) and got to explore many of our beautiful Bahamian islands as a captain.

Now, I live in Prince Edward Island, Canada, with my wonderful wife, Cicely, and our three amazing kiddoes: Jaren, Jaely, and Jarae. No matter where life takes us, our heart stays close to the Bahamas. wetravel back every year, and I bring those island vibes with me wherever I go.

Through Bahamas Haven, I want to share a slice of Bahamian life with you. Whether it’s our beloved local dishes, island stories, or the lingo that keeps our culture alive, I’m here to help you feel that Bahamian warmth—even if you can’t feel the sand between your toes. We strive to provide our readers with in-depth knowledge of the culture and traditions of the Bahamas, as well as practical advice to help you make the most of your trip. Whether you are planning a family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a solo adventure, Bahamas Haven has everything you need to make your trip unforgettable.

So pull up a chair, grab a glass of lemonade (or some good ol’ Bahamian “switcha”), and let’s dive into the magic of island living together. Big up yourself and enjoy the ride—because “tings” are just getting started here at Bahamas Haven!
